Vermont’s state park system protects some of the most scenic landscapes in New England, from forested mountains and quiet lakes to historic sites and alpine recreation areas. Managed by the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation, the system includes 77 state parks spread across the Green Mountain State. Many parks are located within the rugged terrain of the Green Mountains, offering popular hiking and camping destinations such as Smugglers' Notch State Park and Mount Philo State Park, which provides sweeping views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains. Lakeside parks like Bomoseen State Park and Lake Carmi State Park are popular for swimming, boating, and fishing during the summer months.
