Oregon’s ski areas are centered in the Cascade Range, where high volcanic peaks and heavy Pacific snowfall create excellent winter recreation opportunities. The state’s largest resort, Mt. Bachelor near Bend, offers expansive terrain on the flanks of an extinct volcano with panoramic views of the surrounding Cascade volcanoes. Other popular ski areas include Timberline Lodge and Mount Hood Meadows on the slopes of Mount Hood, as well as Willamette Pass Resort and Mt. Ashland Ski Area in the southern part of the state. Many of Oregon’s ski areas are within a few hours’ drive of Portland, making them popular destinations for day trips and weekend skiing throughout the winter season.
