Haiti’s national parks protect some of the country’s most important mountain ecosystems and remaining natural forests. Among the most significant is Pic Macaya National Park in the southwestern peninsula, which preserves cloud forests and provides habitat for many endemic plants and birds. Another key protected area is La Visite National Park in the Massif de la Selle mountains southeast of Port-au-Prince. Established to conserve Haiti’s remaining biodiversity and fragile watersheds, the country’s national parks play an important role in protecting forested landscapes that are increasingly rare across the island while supporting conservation and environmental education efforts.
