Belize’s national parks protect an extraordinary range of tropical ecosystems, from dense rainforests to coral reefs along the Caribbean coast. Many of these protected areas lie within the Belize Barrier Reef—part of the larger Mesoamerican Reef and a UNESCO World Heritage Site—where marine parks safeguard coral formations, seagrass beds, and abundant marine life. On land, parks such as Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary preserve vast tracts of jungle and are known as one of the world’s first reserves dedicated to protecting the jaguar. Other sites, including Blue Hole Natural Monument, protect iconic geological features and popular diving destinations.
