Alaska’s ski areas are small in number but set among some of the most dramatic mountains in North America. The largest lift-served resort, Alyeska Resort, sits in the coastal Chugach Mountains south of Anchorage and is known for exceptionally heavy snowfall and steep terrain overlooking Turnagain Arm. Other ski areas such as Eaglecrest Ski Area near Juneau and Hilltop Ski Area in Anchorage provide smaller community-focused slopes that serve local skiers and snowboarders. With long winter nights, deep maritime snow, and vast surrounding wilderness, Alaska’s ski areas offer a distinctly northern skiing experience where dramatic scenery and uncrowded runs are the norm.
