Colorado is home to most of the highest peaks in the lower 48. These mountains boast climbing challenges for serious peakbaggers as well as class-1 ascents for hikers seeking an unbeatable view. The question of 'how many fourteeners are there in Colorado' does not have a single, simple answer.

The 53 officially-ranked 14ers have at least 300' of prominence. There are 5 additional summits over 14,000' which are named on USGS maps. These combine to form the common "complete" list of 58 peaks which is found below.

The Colorado Mountain Club recognizes a "historical" list of 54 summits which includes the 53 ranked fourteeners plus El Diente.

A more thorough, albeit rarely used, list was created by Gerry Roach with no regards to official names and only 40' of prominence (enough to see with USGS contour lines) which put the total to 75.

The best answer to the question, "How many Colorado 14ers are there?" is probably to respond, "Fifty-something."

The 'YDS' column is the technical rating of the climb using the Yosemite Decimal System. Clicking the top of this column will roughly sort the Colorado 14ers ranked by difficulty, with class 1 being the easiest.

This list was updated in 2022 to reflect the new LiDAR elevations—which are accurate to within a few inches. These new data are especially helpful with prominence values, since the USGS maps only allowed us to estimate saddle elevations to within a 40' range.
